Excel Select Commands with the Keyboard
- If appropriate for the command you intend to use, place the insertion point in the proper word or paragraph.
- Press Alt on the keyboard. Shortcut letters and numbers appear on the Ribbon.
Numbers control commands on the Quick Access toolbar.

- F for Office Button, 1 for Save As, H for Home, N for Insert, P for Page Layout, M for Formulas, A for Data, R for Review, W for View and L for Developer. Press a letter to select a tab on the Ribbon for this example, press H. Excel displays the appropriate tab and letters for each command on that tab.
- Press a letter or letters to select a command. Excel displays options for the command you selected.
- Press a letter or use the arrow keys on the keyboard to select an option. Excel performs the command you selected,
applying the option you choose.
Press the Esc key to step the key controls back one step. Press F6 to change the focus of the program, switching between the document, the status bar, and the Ribbon.
Close Excel
- Choose Office Button> Exit Excel.
If you want to close excel with keyboard, press Alt on the keyboard. Shortcut letters and numbers appear on the Ribbon. Then press X to close the excel. - Click Yes or No if prompted to save your workbook.
